We acknowledge that the palaeosciences are not well-developed across the African continent. However, pockets of research activity, run by Africans, exist in several regions. Our strategic objective is to increase this network to over 10 research collaborators in the next 5 years. SARCHI CHAIR IN AFRICAN DIPLOMACY AND FOREIGN POLICY Achievements • Where research is concerned, it can be noted that with what is a rather small team, we are publishing consistently. • In terms of master’s and doctoral throughput, we have consistently maintained the goal of having a minimum of ten PG students registered each year. These students were recruited beyond UJ and included students from other Universities in South Africa and further afield in Africa. One doctoral and four masters candidates have graduated. • The Centre for African Diplomacy and Leadership (CADL) was established in late 2020 and is now located within the SARChI Chair: African Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at UJ. The mission of CADL is to contribute by way of scientific, policy-oriented research and analysis, as well as education and training, towards a deeper understanding of South African foreign policy, African diplomacy or evolving continental architecture, and regional integration, particularly in Africa. The director of CADL will be Prof C Landsberg and the Co-director Prof CA Georghiou. • Dr Otto signed a book contract with Springer. • Dr Paul Mulindwa signed a book contract with Routridge publishers • Dr Paul Mulindwa has reviewed journal articles for the following journals: African Geographical Review Journal, International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy, the International Indigenous Policy Journal. • Dr Anton Pillay has reviewed the following three journals: Strategic Review of Southern Africa; Journal for eDemocracy & Open Government and Journal of BRICS Studies. • Dr Ralph Mathekga published a seventeen-chapter book “THE ANC’s LAST DECADE” The End of the Party’s Golden Era. • Dr Marcel Nagar published a book “The Road to Democratic Development Statehood in Africa: The Cases of Ethiopia, Mauritius, and Rwanda.
